Adding a Rubric to An Activity

A rubric can be added to Discussions, Dropboxes, Quizzes and Custom Grade Columns. It can also be edited UNTIL the moment it is used for a grade. After that it locks to keep changes from being made.

Select what you want to add a rubric to?


Adding Rubrics to Discussions

  1. Click DISCUSSIONS in the navigation bar.

  2. Click the dropdown arrow to the right of the TOPIC
    and choose EDIT TOPIC.

  3. Click the ASSESSMENT tab.

  4. Click ADD RUBRIC

  5. Select the Rubric you want.

    NOTE: Only PUBLISHED rubrics will display. If you do not see the rubric you are looking for, verify and change the status of the rubric.
  6. Click ADD SELECTED.

  7. The rubric will be added to the discussion.

  8. To remove the rubric, click the X to the right of it.
  9. Click SAVE AND CLOSE when finished.

Adding Rubrics to Dropboxes

  1. Select DROPBOX in the Navigation bar.

  2. Click the dropdown arrow to the right of the dropbox name and choose EDIT.

  3. Verify the Properties tab is selected.

  4. Scroll down and click ADD RUBRIC.

  5. Select the Rubric you want.

    NOTE: Only PUBLISHED rubrics will display. If you do not see the rubric you are looking for, verify and change the status of the rubric.
  6. Click ADD SELECTED.

  7. The rubric will be added to the dropbox.

  8. To remove the rubric, click the X to the right of it.
  9. Click SAVE AND CLOSE when finished.

Adding Rubrics to Quizzes

  1. Select QUIZZES in the Navigation bar.

  2. Click on the NAME of the quiz.

  3. Verify the Properties tab is selected.

  4. Scroll down and click ADD RUBRIC.

  5. Select the Rubric you want.

  6. Click ADD SELECTED.

  7. The rubric will be added to the quiz.

  9. Click SAVE AND CLOSE when finished.

Adding a Rubric to a Custom Grade Column

If you are having students submit papers or projects to you outside of D2L’s dropbox, you can create a grade column for the item and add a rubric to it.

  1. Click GRADES in the Navigation menu.

  2. Verify MANAGE GRADES is selected.

  3. Click NEW and choose ITEM.

  4. Choose NUMERIC (a rubric can be added to any item type)

  5. Add a name (required)

  6. Scroll down to Grades and enter in the Maximum Points.
    Recommended that your maximum points = the maximum points in your rubric.

  7. Scroll down and click ADD RUBRIC.

  8. Select the Rubric you want.

  9. Click ADD SELECTED.
