Spartanburg Technical College

Admissions Information
for Interpreter Training Program

v Are you seeking an associate degree in the Interpreter Training Program ( ITP )? See Section I for instructions.

v  Or, are you taking classes for your own interest, not seeking a degree? Refer to Section II.

Section I: Degree-seeking candidates:

ü     Complete the STC application and submit it to the admissions office.

ü      Submit your official high school transcript or a copy of your GED scores. If you already have a college degree, your high school transcript isn’t necessary.

ü     If you have earned college credit, have an official transcript sent to STC.

ü     Undergo academic assessment. Determination of course placement in English, math and reading-based courses is required for all entering students. Previous college credit may exempt you from this step. Applicants with no previous college credit can meet this requirement in one of four ways:

1.     Schedule the assessment on the campus through the admissions office.

2.     Take the assessment at a nearby college that offers the Asset or compass test and have the results mailed to STC.

3.     Arrange with a college near you to administer the Asset test to you. STC will then mail the test materials to that college.

4.     Complete English Composition I, a reading-based course such as psychology or history and a math class at another college and have an official transcript sent to STC. If you choose this option, you will be enrolled as a special student (ASAP) until you have completed the classes and submitted the transcript.

ü     Complete the acceptance process. Once you have met the requirements of application and academic assessment, an STC admissions counselor will contact you to provide further information via e-mail, telephone conference or face-to-face interview. You will then receive an acceptance letter in the mail.

If you begin the Interpreter Training Program as an ASAP student, you will not receive an acceptance letter for ITP until you have satisfied the academic assessment requirement.

ü     Apply for financial aid. (Note: As an ASAP student, you are not eligible for financial aid.)

ü     Register online or contact Scott Ready , department head, ITP , for advisement and registration.

ü     Pay tuition through the business office and purchase books and materials through The Book Inn.

Section II: For personal interest:

ü     Submit an application to Spartanburg Technical College. For program of study, write in “ASAP- ITP ”.

ü     Register online or contact Scott Ready, department head, ITP, for advisement.

*      ASAP students are not eligible for financial aid or for out-of-country tuition break.
