Adding Your Voice to Your Online Class
One way you can personalize your students' experiences with WebCT is by letting them hear what you sound like! It's easy!
We're assuming that you are using some version of Windows, have a sound card and have a microphone. If not, you can come visit Mark Roseveare in Distance Learning and you can record in his music studio. If you need sound longer than 60 seconds, you should also talk to him or Greg Bond.
NOTE: The sound will not be as good as a CD recording! That's ok!
First, you need a microphone attached to your PC's sound card.
Next go to the Start menu, Programs, Entertainment, and choose Sound Recorder.
Click on the red "record" button to start recording. Recordings are limited to 60 seconds or less.
Speaking into the microphone, say what you want your students to hear.
Click on the square "stop" button to stop the recording.
Click on the "play" button to hear your recording.
If you want to re-record your message, click on File, New, and go through the recording process again.
Once you decide you're happy with the recording, you'll want to save it. Click on File, Save As, and give it a name (8 letters or less) and click on Save.
The file will be saved as a *.wav file.
Now go into your WebCT and upload your file and then add it to your WebCT class under a content module.
This should work for most students that are using Windows and have a sound card. I haven't tested how it works accessing WebCT from a Mac.
