The usual SCC course approval process will be followed for developing a new SCCOnline course or revising an existing SCC course for SCCOnline format, with the addition of a review by the SCCOnline User's Group's Online Course Review Committee. This additional review will look at student learning issues such as appropriate use of technology, content presentation, and course design.

Using the Online Course Review Form, the OCR will supply input to the faculty developer and copy the supervisor, the SCCOnline Director and Division Dean. Upon completion of the course development period, the OCR will conduct a final review and decide whether the course is finished or needs additional development. Their review will be forwarded to the supervisor, who will then conduct his/her own review of the course and decide whether it is complete. If it is complete, the supervisor should initiate the New Online Course Completion Approval form.

Sequence will be:

Department chair submits new online course request form, which notifies SCCOnline Director, Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL), Online Course Review (OCR) Chair and Division Dean
OCR Chair assigns OCR mentor(s) to developer
Developer should contact CETL for assistance with modifying syllabus and course to fit online delivery
Within first 3 weeks of development time, developer should submit revised syllabus to CETL for approval
OCR mentors contact developer and meets with him/her as needed
OCR mentors conduct mid-term review of course
OCR mentors sends mid-term review to developer
Developer makes revisions as suggested and continues development
OCR team conducts final review of completed course at end of term
Final review is sent to developer, with copies going to the supervisor, SCCOnline Director, and Division Dean
Developer makes minor changes as indicated by form - if major changes are needed, course will be postponed until ready
Supervisor completes final review
If course is satisfactorily developed, supervisor initiates the New Online Course Completion Approval form
SCCOnline Director will make a final evaluation of new course
Once all involved parties sign off on the NOCCA form, SCCOnline will move the completed class to the live shell for the next semester
The new course will be taught as a pilot the first semester it is offered
- The supervisor should observe the class and provide feedback to instructor
- The instructor should make any changes or improvements prior to offering the course again
- The successful completiont
Every two years, the course should be reevaluated by the supervisor/department head to insure quality

Appropriate technology to enhance student learning will be used with each type SCCOnline course. All courses will utilize interactive technology such as course web page, online discussion groups, and regular communication with students. All courses will use approved standard syllabus and addendum.

Course quality is of utmost importance. Spartanburg Community College has established quality guidelines for online courses and adheres to SREB's Principles of Good Practice and expects these standards to be followed in all online curriculum material development.
